Preservation Efforts

In the 20th century, efforts began to stabilize and protect Roche Abbey. The site was purchased by the Ministry of Works in 1920 and later passed to English Heritage.

Conservation work included clearing vegetation, repairing masonry, and making the site accessible to visitors.

Excavations have uncovered foundations, burials, and artefacts illuminating monastic life and the abbey’s construction phases.

The layout and water management systems have been studied extensively.
